Law Reform – Community Development

Shoalcoast is committed to working towards making the law and its administration more socially and legally just. Our goals are to:

  • Identify laws and policies that are unjust, especially those that affect socially and economically disadvantaged groups
  • Encourage attention to, and discussion of these laws in the broader community
  • Lobby for changes to these laws and their operation
  • Lobby for change to any inequitable policies and practices of government agencies and other institutions

In 2015-16, Shoalcoast prepared a major submission to the NSW Senate Inquiry into Reparations for the Stolen Generations in NSW. A copy of the submission is available here:

In addition we are continuing with our lobbying around the following issues:

  • Need for Federal Circuit Court services on the South Coast;
  • Need for Community Legal Centre presence in the South East.

We welcome input from the community regarding current law reform issues: ie, what do you think should be changed?
